Amid all the fanfare last week and a raft of new directories – Chambers and Legal 500 released their new UK editions, and Best Layers-US News put out their latest offering – IFLR1000 unveiled its latest annual guide.
The international legal directory focused on corporate and finance work is now in its (impressive) 29th iteration.
This year’s book features law firms in 120 countries, profiles of 14,000 recommended lawyers, and editorial commentary for 2,000 firms.
IFLR1000 has also upped the number of clients it contacts to 53,000.
For those who complain that legal directories tend to be static from one year to the next, there were 1,800 changes in firms rankings this year, and 1,200 changes to the lawyer rankings.
The latest directory launch comes on the heel of IFLR1000’s recent release of its first ever rankings of US law firms at a state level.
While IFLR1000 has researched and covered the US since 1990 at a nationwide level, it recently put together its first analysis of the corporate and finance legal markets within 25 key US states.
For those in that want more detail on changes at the US side of the directory, IFLR recently organized a webinar.
The IFLR US team, led by North America editor, Kurt Stumpo, and Latin America editor, Rani Mehta, discussed the research guidelines for the upcoming year, provided an overview of the research methodology and how firms are selected, and offered some best practice tips on how to complete submissions.
You can replay the webinar if you missed the original broadcast.
One key development in the US part of the guide is that IFLR has expanded into real estate, and moving forward will look to highlight firms and lawyers in each state for transactional real estate work including acquisitions, disposals, and financings.
Separately, IFLR has announced that the research process for its Europe Awards 2019 has begun and is inviting firms to participate.
Submission deadline is November 30 2018, nominations will be announced in February 2019, and award winners will be unveiled in London in April 2019.
