The regional rankings are based on the opinions of associates who participated in Vault’s associate survey earlier in 2013.
Associates were asked to rate the prestige of peer firms in their area on a scale of 1 to 10.
Vault said:
“While the Vault Law 100 provides a broad overview of the most prestigious firms nationwide, our regional rankings offer jobseekers a more targeted perspective on the top firms in specific geographic regions. The law firms in our regional rankings include firms that may be renowned nationally or internationally as well as locally; regardless of size, what they all have in common is that they have established themselves as leaders in their area.”
In July 2013, Vault ranked the top 25 US law firms with the best quality of life. Paul Hastings came out on top.
17,000 associate lawyers rated their firms for satisfaction, compensation, associate/partner relations, training, career outlook, and several other factors.
The main Vault 100, published in June 2013, ranks the most renowned American law firms based on the perceptions of currently practicing lawyers.
Elite New York firm Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz was number one, with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in second.
