The Australia arm of the ALB publication is to close shortly.
ALB owner Thomson Reuters announced today that ALB’s online legal breaking news service and magazine has been discontinued in Australia.
The ANZ portion of the ALB website will continue operation until the end of January 2014.
However, the legal news service, magazines, and events continue in the rest of Asia.
Thomson Reuters acquired Asian Legal Business in March 2011 from Key Media to expand its presence in Asia.
Asian Legal Business was founded in 2002, and produces a range of journals, breaking legal news, deals, analysis, legal awards, and in-house events.

Having been involved with its launch, I am very sorry to see the demise of the Australasian edition of ALB. Can only imagine that there was not enough recruitment advertising recently to support two legal titles in the region. Perhaps an opportunity for a different kind of business model?
Lloyd Pearson says
Stephen – thanks for your comment. yes, I was sorry to hear of this as well. I have only worked occasionally in the Australian market over the years, but I have read ALB Australia from time to time and it will be missed. What are you up to these days? Lloyd.
Mike Shipley says
Hi Mullers,
Yes what are you up to at the moment? I think ALB had legs – it’s just that the margins in this kind of publishing are pretty slim, and someone like TR may have found it just not profitable enough to be worthwhile. They are also more focused on data I believe rather than print and publishing
Stephen Mulrenan says
Apologies both, have just seen your responses. Mike, I understand there’s a new player in town in Australasian legal publishing! I’m now involved with a new compliance-focused title for a consultancy called The Red Flag Group. A slightly different value proposition from what I’ve done previously – more brand journalism and content marketing. A steep learning curve but very interesting. I also still contribute a regular A-Pac column for the IBA’s Global Insight title.
