A new directory has been launched that enables users to search for law firm networks.
Locate Law Networks is an online listing of 50 law firm networks in 150 countries, and 50 states.
Those networks are home to 3,500 firms and 300,000 lawyers.
To operate the site, you select a country of your choice from a dropdown menu, and the site then displays the law firm networks active in that country, the name of the member firm in the network in that country, and a contact at the network.
As well as basic directory search functionality, the site offers a Request for Qualification feature that allows firms to request information about networks with specific expertise and experience.
Locate Law Networks is linked to AILFN, the Association of International Law Firm Networks, a trade association that promotes law firm networks.
Networks that are members of AILFN show up more prominently in the search results.
The mover behind this new service is Stephen McGarry, the founder of the Lex Mundi and World Services Group networks, and before that, HG.org, one of the early pioneers in the legal directory world, with its online site dating back to 1995.
Networks are a big deal these days, with more firms opting to join one or more of them to give themselves an international platform to compete with the merged firms and vereins.
Chambers & Partners has a dedicated section where it ranks some of the large law firm networks.
And Dentons, one of the biggest firms in the world, has gone a step further by creating a proprietary network of its own that allows law firms outside of Dentons to sign up.
