Law Firm Media Professionals, the US membership organization for law firm public relations and communications staff, held a lunch yesterday in Washington with Chambers USA editor Laura Mills.
Among the nuggets of advice for law firm marketers engaged with legal directories:
- Laura Mills announced to the US audience that the submission client reference limit had increased to 20. See more here on this
- Matter confidentiality should be marked clearly and unambiguously. See more here on this
- Keep practice overviews short
- Be honest in your submissions, as Chambers will catch you out if you have bent the truth too much
- Don’t badger the research staff for extensions, particularly for references – which should be sent in on time
- In-house marketers should not give contact information for the Chambers researchers to the firm’s clients, as the clients will sometimes send in a quote, but Chambers would prefer to speak to clients on the phone and have a more natural conversation
And, finally:
"Clarity and brevity are the soul of a good Chambers submission," – Laura Mills, @ChambersGuides, #LFMPinDC
