Irreverent legal news provider Legal Cheek is the latest organization to throw its hat into the legal awards ring.
The London-based news and careers site will hold its inaugural awards on Thursday, March 16 2017, where it will reveal the winners in a bunch of categories focused around Legal Cheek’s core market of law students and young lawyers.
For example, there are categories such as “best law firm for training”, “best law firm for quality of work”, “the law firms with the most approachable partners in Britain”, and “the fanciest law firm offices in Britain”.
Alex Aldridge, a former journalist for The Guardian and Legal Week who founded the site in 2011, said to me:
“The Legal Cheek Awards follows the enormous success of our inaugural trainee and junior lawyer survey of 56 leading UK corporate law firms, which saw over 1,500 millennial lawyers rate their firms on everything from quality of training to partner approachability to perks. They also told us which rival firms they most admired.
With students around Britain citing our rankings in their training contract applications, we felt that the best performing firms deserved a celebration of their achievements. Expect City of London glitz, celebrity glamour (we have a very famous Legal Cheek reader who’ll be delivering a special message to attendees) and a youthful, hip vibe (each of the 15 gongs will be handed out by one of Legal Cheek’s team of 45 campus ambassadors).”
The UK’s answer to Above the Law, Legal Cheek has evolved from its gossipy origins and presents a more grown up feel these days, with the Twitter “blue tick” verification symbol and heavyweight writers on its roster such as legal guru Joshua Rozenberg a sign of its mainstream clout in the legal media space.
