Legal 500 has released the editorial guidelines and schedule for its latest US directory.
Key dates:
November 9 2016
Submissions and references due for the following sections: dispute resolution; government; intellectual property; labor and employment; M&A/corporate and commercial; real estate
November 16 2016
Submissions and references due for the following sections: antitrust; finance; industry focus; investment fund formation and management; media, technology and telecoms; tax
(note that when Legal 500 refers to the sections above, these chapters are broad categories that contain further sub-sections within the overall heading)
December 2016-January 2017
Law firm interviews begin November 28 2016, and run through December 2016 and January 2017. References contacted during December and January, with law firms informed as to the precise date one week before.
Legal 500 says that hitting the deadlines is important as far as the references are concerned as the company contacted 300,000 people in 2015-2016, so needs time to process the spreadsheets properly before the research can begin.
June 2017
Legal 500 USA 2017 published. The Legal 500 USA 2016 edition was published in June 2016 and is the version currently on the website.
This is the second edition of Legal 500 USA under the leadership of editor Seth Jennings, who I caught up with recently over coffee.
He explained some of the changes to this year’s guide.
“The two new sections are media and entertainment and transport (which is actually split into three sub categories: aviation and air travel, rail and road, and shipping).
I’ve been planning on adding transport for a while. It’s a major sector in its own right, of course, but it’s also vitally important to the smooth functioning of the US economy overall.
I had also been considering adding media and entertainment, as it’s a significant and high-profile industry and a notable omission from our US coverage, but what really convinced me was my recent trip to Los Angeles, and standing in amongst it in Century City.”
There’s been a few other changes as well – see the guidelines for more.
