US legal media heavyweight Law360 has its sights set on the UK.
The prolific publisher, best known for its daily news wire, practice specific alerts, and raft of surveys, plans to expand its British coverage in 2015.
In a recent email shot, Law360 contacted law firms to ask if they could meet London-based attorneys for a discussion of their work, the legal industry and what kind of UK legal news they would be most interested in reading.
Law360 has been arguably the biggest success story in legal media in the last 10 years – its growth even more remarkable given that it has taken place against a backdrop of economic downturn, and major structural changes to the publishing industry in which traditional advertising revenue has dipped, and products have moved online.
The site was founded in 2004 by two New York-based entrepreneurs, Magnus Hoglund and Marius Meland.
They hatched the idea in a Starbucks café, before moving into small offices, and then steadily expanding the service.
In 2012, they struck gold when Law360’s parent company, Portfolio Media, was acquired by the legal publishing giant, LexisNexis.
A scrappy upstart until a few years ago, Law360 is now firmly on the reading list of partners at all the major firms eager to know the latest news in their practice area or industry.
Law360’s key strength is the ability to customize the news service so that you receive a tailored digest of alerts relevant to your areas of interest.
On the other hand, Law360’s relentless expansion is likely to be met with groans from some weary law firm marketing directors tasked with completing yet more surveys.
