US legal directory Best Lawyers is set to publish a new list that will highlight the most promising younger lawyers in the US.
Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch – focused on lawyers who have been in private practice for between five and 10 years – will be released on August 20 2020.
The inaugural edition will recognize 12,000 lawyers across 77 different practice areas.
Best Lawyers chief executive Phil Greer:
“Best Lawyers was founded in 1981 with the purpose of recognizing extraordinary lawyers in private practice through an exhaustive peer-review process. Nearly 40 years later, we have maintained the same methodology, to recognize a different demographic of talented and deserving lawyers.”
Research for this new recognition began in October 2019 and follows the same peer review methodology that Best Lawyers has used for 40 lawyers in its standard lawyer listings.
All these younger lawyers made the cut because they were positively recommended by their peers – other lawyers in private practice.
Selected lawyers first had to be nominated (by someone other than themselves).
Then those nominees, plus all the lawyers recognized in the traditional Best Lawyers publication, were invited to provide feedback on candidates.
Once that process was completed, nominees are confirmed to be in good standing with their local bar associations.
After a candidate has been in practice for 10+ years, they are eligible to be nominated for the traditional Best Lawyers awards.
