Best Lawyers has published the 2016 edition of its annual survey of the leading lawyers in America.
Now in its 22nd year, lawyers from 140 practice areas are included, along with an additional selection named as “Lawyers of the Year” that received particularly high feedback within specific practice areas and metropolitan regions.
I was chatting with a law firm colleague today about the best way to communicate the Best lawyers results.
There are different views on this: some think that a dedicated e-mail blast is the way to go, while others say that announcing rankings in their own right does not justify a discrete mailshot.
I take the latter view.
A Best Lawyers ranking is an important recognition for many lawyers, and naturally you want to make that known to the wider world.
But in an age of email saturation, I’m not sure that clients, prospects, and other contacts of the law firm, need to receive a one-off email touting your firm’s rankings.
After all, most law firm ranking announcements look the same.
My suggestion: a posting to the website news section, updates to the lawyers’ web bios, social media updates, but no discrete mail out.
If you send out a periodic newsletter, you could also include the Best Lawyers news alongside other developments.
