Now in its 30th year, the American Lawyer has released the 2014 edition of its AmLaw 100 survey.
The data reflects the 2014 calendar year and orders the leading US law firms by overall revenue, number of attorneys, profits per partner, and various other measures.
(I’m avoiding the dreadful word, “metrics”)
The annual release of the AmLaw 100 has turned into a bit of a bunfight, with an endless stream of reporters, commentators, consultants, and academics weighing in with their own take on the trends.
Amid the noise and the hand wringing, the key change this year among the order of the law firms is that Latham & Watkins is now listed as number one – that is, Latham is now the largest firm in the United States by gross revenue – a remarkable rise to the top for a firm that only 20 years ago was seen primarily as a Los Angeles firm.
