Super Lawyers – that most of American of legal directories – has landed on English shores in its first venture outside the United States.
The London edition of Super Lawyers Magazine has been released, containing the 2013 London Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists.
It’s something of a reversal of the recent trend, with a major U.S directory coming to the U.K following several years in which British directories took their wares westwards over the Atlantic.
Mirroring the format used in the U.S, where Super Lawyers editions are given away with well-known magazines and newspapers, UK readers can find copies of the Super Lawyers magazine in The Telegraph magazine and in The Law Society Gazette.
The debut London supplement, featuring Peters & Peters senior partner Keith Oliver on the front cover, is also available as a digital edition.
Super Lawyers is a rating service of lawyers from more than 70 practice areas.
In the United States, Super Lawyers is published in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
For those unfamiliar with Super Lawyers and how it works, the company explains how lawyers are selected:
“The Super Lawyers and Rising Stars selection process involves many phases. It begins with nominations and continues with an evaluation into 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Solicitor candidates are then grouped by their primary practice areas and by the size of their firms. In each category, those with the highest point totals are included on the Super Lawyers list; solicitors who are 40 or younger, or have been practicing law for 10 years or less, are listed as Rising Stars.”
Super Lawyers was founded in Minneapolis in 1991 and was originally published as a special section in Minnesota Law & Politics magazine.
In February 2010, Super Lawyer owner Key Professional Media was acquired by legal publishing giant Thomson Reuters.
