The BTI Consulting Group has published its latest report, which identifies the law firms that it says provides the best outside counsel.
According to the consultancy behind the survey:
“Based on more than 3,400 interviews conducted with corporate counsel over the span of 12 years, this report is your guide for navigating the shifting landscape, and includes legal budgets and spending benchmarks, insights into organizational structure and staffing, and how corporate counsel are driving business objectives and adding value.”
200 in-house counsel at large US corporations were interviewed in 2012 for the survey, 53.3 percent of which were general counsel or chief legal officers.
A whole section of the analysis is devoted to outside counsel satisfaction, with numerous rankings of those firms considered to provide the best client service.
The top 10 firms overall are:

- Seyfarth Shaw
- Thompson Hine
- Kirkland & Ellis
- Faegre Baker Daniels
- Baker & McKenzie

BTI is a longstanding provider of market research for professional services firms, and has conducted a number surveys into law firms over the years.
The company was founded in 1989 by Michael Rynowecer and is based in Massachusetts.
A widely publicized report into the way in which clients use legal directories and online lawyer profiles was published by BTI in 2011.
The survey found that nine out of ten corporate legal staff turn to legal directories.
