American Lawyer has added another event to its growing portfolio of law firm awards.
The company says the 2013 American Lawyer Global Legal Awards reflect the increasing importance of international work to legal practices:
“This program will recognize and honor the best cross-border legal work. Across several practice areas and disciplines—in both transactions and disputes—we intend to identify the biggest and most important commercial legal matters that involved lawyers and parties from more than one jurisdiction. It’s obvious that this is where the global economy has moved—capital and ambition no longer know boundaries. Together these matters form the new frontier for law firms. It is an area overdue for proper recognition and coverage.”
Of course, globalization and emerging markets are nothing new for international law firms – the big push for many took place in the 1990s – although the effects of the financial crisis and economic downturn have caught up with many U.S-headquartered firms who could previously rely on a strong domestic market to keep the money coming in.
Times have changed, and it’s good to see American Lawyer underlining the importance of international legal work – a special interest of mine.
All law firms worldwide are invited to enter.
Download the entry forms and instructions here.
I do have to query one aspect of the application process, the text of which sounds more like an examination than a warm invitation.
“Please send FOUR hard copies of your submission and one electronic copy on a flash drive”
Four hard copies? What year is this? Have you been watching too much Mad Men?
The American Lawyer and its parent group, ALM, are behind a series of different legal awards events, including the main American Lawyer Awards, which take place on October 29 2013 in New York.
